P&Co : Is the Birmingham brand worth the hype
Founded in 2013 in Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter, P&Co began as the vision of two friends (Jordan Brookes & Lee Timms) who wanted to create clothing that reflected their own lifestyle rather than chase trends. Drawing inspiration from Vintage Americana, motorcycle culture and classic workwear, the brand set out to make well-crafted garments with longevity at their core. More than a decade later P&Co has established itself as one of Britain’s most recognisable contemporary menswear brands
Let’s be honest there are no shortage of clothing brands shouting for your attention.Every week another label promises to reinvent the humble overshirt or claims to have designed the perfect t-shirt. Most disappear as quickly as they arrive.
P&Co however seems to have taken a different route.
Instead of chasing trends, they built a recognisable identity, Vintage Americana, classic workwear, Motorcycle culture and carefully considered graphics became their signature. Whether it’s a Chore jacket, Heavyweight overshirt or one of their hand-drawn graphic tees, there’s usually enough character to know it’s P&Co.
But that wasn’t going to be enough so what Jordan & Lee set out to do was bring the aesthetics but to add quality. It was this quality in the goods that really made the brand stand up and be noticed. They somehow mastered the art of creating clothes that somehow aged better over time just like the brands of years past.
But perhaps their biggest achievement wasn’t the clothing at all – it’s the brand they built around it.
P&Co doesn’t just sell jackets and trousers, it sells a lifestyle built around creativity, craftsmanship and purposeful living. Every campaign, journal article and collection feels like it’s telling the same story. That consistency for me is the real secret to the success of this young brand.
A £120 overshirt might seem expensive until you have bought 3 x £50 alternatives that lose their shape after three washes. P&Co are firmly in the buy less, buy better camp.
But for me it’s their accessory ranges that really are smashing it out of the park in the current moment. If you love a cap then no wardrobe should be without a P&Co, they have mastered the art of amazing cap making. And don’t get me started on those belts, possibly a little pricey for me but I think my arm might just get twisted.
From a Sole88 perspective that is probably the biggest lesson of all. Great brands don’t simply make good clothes – they make people want to belong to something or aspire to be something. And for me this is exactly what the brand has achieved.
But what is more exciting is that they don’t stand still & if you look at their aw26 launch the guys have really turned things on their head and gone after a nautical theme. This “ Sailing Club” launch is so clever as it moves the brand into a new genre whilst still holding onto it’s core Vintage vibes.
10/10 from Sole88 for the new launch
And finally please if in London check out their amazing concept store in the Spitafields area just beside Wax London. A beautifully put together store with the most amazing motorcycle front and centre.
Watch this space as the brand goes from strength to strength and keep an eye out for some of their Running performance ranges, is there anything these guys can’t do?
