The infamous chore jacket originated from 19th century France often called the “blue de travail” (literally work blues) – It was designed for the laborers like farmers & factory workers & railroad workers. it was made from a heavy cotton or moleskin fabric & dyed deep indigo blue. Built with large pockets for tools and supplies, but cut in a way to give ease of movement day to day.

Possibly my favourite style of 2026 as it goes with all looks and is perfect if you like a bit of layering. Really no wardrobe should be without this piece. Inspired by the US Army jackets warn in tropical climate and built for durability. They realised after WW1 that they were having issues with soldiers overheating in action. So in 1941 they produced the first “field” jacket as called then. An overcoat that could be layered with other pieces. They still failed on numerous occasions to get this piece right but the M43 was eventually a huge success and went on to be the style we know & love today and it will never go out of style & you can keep bringing back time after time. So whether you are just looking for a traditional army green or the camo vibe here are a couple of brands to look out for (not to forget those vintage stores where you could find a few gems)
